Family Self-Sufficiency Program

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is designed to help Section 8 families gain and maintain independence. Families participating in the program design a workable plan for them to become self-sufficient over the following five-year period. The FSS Coordinator helps the family with accessing public and private resources to assist with assessing career goals, job training and employment. The family member and the FSS Coordinator develop an individual action plan and contract of projected dates for completion of tasks. Participants draw on their unique strengths and determination in striving toward self-sufficiency. Regular contact with participants offers the opportunity to problem-solve difficulties before they become barriers to self-sufficiency. Through the contract, an escrow savings account may be established as goals are met and rent is increased due to earned income.
