Home Ownership
The North Little Rock Housing Authority is known far and wide for being innovative in their approach to problems facing residents and community and has one of the greatest homeownership programs in Arkansas.
Family Self-sufficiency Homeownership Coordinator Brenda Reed has over 18 years of case-managements experience including 15 years in non-profit program administration in the fields of Family Self-Sufficiency, Homeownership and program development. Under the direction of Jim Redman, Reed oversees all aspects of Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Homeownership operations/services to ensure quality and sustainability. She is responsible for the development of HCV Homeownership marketing campaigns, grant writing and design/production of outreach materials.
May of 2003, the first family used a Section 8 Voucher to move into homeownership. As of January 2009, 50 families have used their Section 8 Voucher to purchase a home, through the North Little Rock Housing Authority Homeownership Program.
The Success of the Homeownership Program depends upon removing barriers to clients striving for homeownership. Through the program, each client’s barriers are approached as if going through an obstacle course. Any obstacle standing in the way of an individual attaining their goals is addressed. The Homeownership Coordinator makes client referrals through partnerships to Money Smart Classes, prevention programs, IDA’s, credit counseling services, required first-time home-buyer training, credit reporting services, Fair Housing, Home Inspection, Homestead Tax Services, Community Development Down-payment, Federal Home Loan Down-payment , ADFA Assistance, weatherization and emergency home repair.
The North Little Rock Housing Authority will continue to work toward the goal of homeownership by utilizing a combination of strategies and partnerships. Finally, the case management and personal post counseling component of HCV Homeownership Program should not be underestimated. This has been and continues to be the key ingredient to the success of homeowners. The emotional support given to our families has increased their chances of continuing success.
